It only seems right to write the first official post about our favorite place we have visited since the start of 2016: La Casa de Tu Madre in Philadelphia, PA.

But first, let's rewind a bit. As a deeply thoughtful and very surprising Christmas gift, Mike brought me on a trip to Philly to watch our beloved New York Rangers battle the Philadelphia Flyers on the ice and explore the city of brotherly love for the first time. And man, did we explore. From sun up to (way past) sun down, we kept our eyes peeled for interesting watering holes to grab a bite or sip a cocktail in; that's how we managed to literally stumble upon La Casa de Tu Madre.

Nothing beats a restaurant with a wonderfully decorated interior and matching exterior. From the restaurant logo being a stylized sugar skull (we liked it so much, we even got shirts!) to the walls being adorned with luchador masks and sombreros, this place has 'mexican restaurant' down to a T without being cheesy or overdone. Super friendly and knowledgeable waitstaff doesn't hurt anyone, either.

What really sealed the deal for us was their happy hour offering. Offering chips and salsa for $2 and delicious margaritas for $5 has to be against some kind of law, right?! Luckily, it doesn't seem so, therefore we'll get it while we can (which would be Monday through Friday from 5 to 7 pm. You can thank us later). There are also nightly specials during the week, including movie and game nights, $2 Tuesdays, and more than enough fun to be had.
I mean, look at that beautiful cocktail. Fresh lime juice, better-than-average well tequila, agave, and some salt = perfect, no frills margarita.
Two t-shirts, (more than) a few margaritas and an order of flautas later, and we had to, sadly, say adios to this wonderful spot until the next time we're in good old Philadelphia.
