On the Road: Good Dog Bar

Nothing can quite satisfy a desire for happiness like man's best friend. This spot hit the desire square on the head with pictures of perky pooches wall to wall. The first floor was a bar stretching the length of the room equipped with great service and great variety. We immediately made friends with quite possibly the only other Ranger fan in a 10 mile radius. He also happened to tend bar there on other nights. The place was busy so while we waited for a half hour for our table to open up we struck a good conversation about a superior New York based hockey team. The second floor also had a bar. Everyone likes more bars!

The fried pickles were the highlight of the restaurant. Not the full bar, or the pics of hounds hanging from the walls, but the fried pickles. Find something more satisfying than something pickled and deep fried. A simple creation was enhanced with a goat cheese ranch dip, the condiment of your dreams.

Sandwiches drew my attention, each having something uniquely attractive: Bahn Mi or brisket grilled cheese were finalists in my mental competition, but the Lamb BLT was where I finally and firmly landed. Rather than your typical pork bacon Good Dog prepared a lamb bacon in house, topped with chimchurri mayo, and lettuce and tomato obviously, tied together between a sourdough bun.

When the server brought our dinner to the table I grew a little envious of Lena's baked Macaroni and Cheese. A crispy layer of Corn Flakes covered the creamy, cheesy elbows creating a delightful juxtaposition in texture. Three cheeses made up the concoction: Gruyere, Aged Gouda, and Aged Cheddar, along with a béchamel sauce.
